Current positions:•Professor, research leader and consulting immunologist, Department of Clinical Immunology, Odense University Hospital and Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark from 1/8 2001.•Research leader and administrative head of OPEN (Odense Patient data Explorative Network) from 2008.Other milestones:•Chief consultant at Department of Clinical Immunology, Vævstypelaboratoriet, H:S Rigshospitalet from September 1998 to July 2001. •Authorization as a specialist in clinical immunology March 1998. •Doctoral thesis (dr.med.) from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, January 1996. Title: Regulation of the human B-lymphocyte response against Haemophilus influenzae type b capsular polysaccharide. •MD January 1987 from University of Copenhagen. Other current scientific positions: •Partner in the Interreg EU-financed Danish-German stem cell consortium BoneBank since 2016.•Chairman of the Scientific Committee under the Danish Blood Donor Organization (from 2011). •Chairman of the Committee for Immunological Diagnostics under the Danish Society for Clinical Immunology (from 2012). Major scientific interests With a background in basic immunology and vaccinology (doctoral thesis), I have specialized in clinical immunology with main focus on immunodeficiencies, antibody-repertoire and B-cell memory. In this context, I have established a state-of-the art immunogenetics laboratory at the department (including next generation sequencing) and contributed with many publications in the field of immunodeficiencies. Self-taught bioinformatician with a published portefolio of sequence analysis software (VDJsolver) with an interest in large-scale sequence analysis of rearranged B-cell receptor genes yielding insights into mechanisms leading to generation of antibody diversity. The last few years, developed an interest in advanced cellular therapy and stem cells with focus on immunological aspects of stem cells and their HLA expression. This work has led to several clinical trials with mesenchymal stems as well as basic research into the molecular biology of HLA expression in stem cells until now culminating in the molecular dissection of a novel posttranslational mechanism preventing HLA-B from being expressed on the surface of cells. Current Research SupervisionCurrently supervising 3 Ph.D. students. Previously supervised >34 thesis students.International collaborationCurrently one Ph.D. student positioned in Marcela Maus’ group at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard in Boston, USA. Interreg BoneBank consortium partners from Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein.Leadership experienceSince 2008 founder and daily leader of the research infrastructure OPEN (Odense Patient data Explorative Network) now comprising more than 380 research projects and more than 560,000 biobank samples. OPEN currently employs 8 full time staff and >30 part time staff members. Since 2008 chairing the teaching course in immunology and microbiology (module b10) in the bachelor part of the medical studies at the University of Southern Denmark. Since 2001 research leader and responsible for research and internal education in the department of clinical immunology.Publications:In total 97 papers including 1 book and 10 book chapters. First author of 18 articles. Last author of 34. Of the papers, 83 are from peer reviewed journals. 27 of the peer reviewed original publications and reviews are from the last five+ years (2012-2017). Number of citations: 1529 (Web of Science, August 2017, Hirsch index: 19).
