Forskningsinformation

 

Michael Rudolph is specialized in comparative social and cultural studies with focus on Greater China. His research focuses on postcolonial identity construction in Taiwan as well as on psycho-cultural adaptation problems of ethnic minorities in Taiwan’s rapidly modernizing Han society. He has written books and articles on ethnic relations and social movements as well as on the dynamics of rituals in Taiwan. At the moment, he is researching the formation of new ethnic groups on the island in the new Millennium and the impact of the travel of concepts and theories to Taiwan.

 

Forskningsinteresser

Field research in Taiwan:

  • on child prostitution and the social problems of Taiwan's Aborigines (1987-1989);
  • on the ethno-political movement of Taiwan's Aborigines and its acceptance by the people in the countryside (1994-1996);
  • on the development of new rituals under the influence of tourism and multiculturalism (2001-2007);
  • on the formation of new ethnic groups in the new Millennium and the impact of the travel of concepts and theories to Taiwan (since 2008).
