The variety of life histories displayed by the world’s animals and plants has fascinated scientists for centuries. Some organisms live fast and die young, while others persist for decades. Some reproduce prolifically, while others invest heavily in few offspring. Some can enter dormancy or aestivation, while others remain active year-round. Some care intensively for their young, or live in social groups, while others do not.

My research focuses on understanding the drivers and consequences of this diversity: How demographic strategies evolve across lineages, how they respond to environmental fluctuations, and what that means for species persistence under global change. I use comparative demography, population modelling, and macroecological synthesis to link life histories to ecological and conservation challenges.

In addition to my scientific work, I contribute to the research community through advisory and governance roles. I serve on the Scientific Committee (Videnskabeligt Udvalg) of the Danish Ornithological Society (DOF) and on the Board of the Nordic Society Oikos (NSO), roles through which I support development, coordination, and strategic oversight of ecological and ornithological research across Denmark and the Nordic region.
