Ph.D.
Mircea Trandafir is an assistant professor in the Department of Business and Economics. He received his B.A. in Finance from the Academy of Economic Studies (Bucharest, Romania) in 2000, his M.A. in Economics from Central European University (Budapest, Hungary) in 2002, and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland (College Park, US) in 2009. Prior to joining SDU, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at Université de Sherbrooke (Québec, Canada). His primary research interests are in applied microeconomics, particularly labor and health economics. Recently, he studied the effects of legalizing same-sex marriage on family formation, the effects of immigration on native crime and health, and the returns to childbirth technologies. At SDU, he teaches a course on Social research methods, and in the past he taught courses in labor economics at the graduate level and econometrics at both the graduate and the undergraduate level, as well as introductory and intermediate microeconomics, money and banking, and financial markets at the undergraduate level.
