Maiken Skovrider Aaskoven har en uddannelsesbaggrund som cand.oecon. i mikroøkonomi, hvor hendes speciale undersøgte, om ældre danskere har helbredet til at arbejde længere. Hendes ph.d. er en del af projektet ”Tracing causes of inequality in health and well-being”; et projekt finansieret af Norges Forskningsråd, og som er en del af et samarbejde mellem flere universiteter bl.a. Syddansk Universitet og Tromsø Universitet.

The focus of the project is on how individuals manage health shocks. The healthcare sector provides support by way of treatment and rehabilitation, but there is significant co-production by ways of patients’ own efforts. In the year of a health shock patients are likely to reduce their labour supply for treatment in hospital and rehabilitation. However, what happens in subsequent years? Can we explain heterogeneity in outcomes, as measured by health related quality of life, life satisfaction and job marketparticipation? To what extent do childhood circumstances, socio-economic characteristics and past life pathways impact on health resilience?
