Forskningsområde

Katarzyna Wieszczeczynska is a PhD Candidate researching on ‘Capacity Building for Operationalizing Urban Resilience Transition’ at The University of Southern Denmark, within SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering (since September 2020). The research project aims to increase capacities of city officials in small and medium size urban coastal areas in Sub-Saharan Africa by investigating current programmes and training methodologies for capacity building (UN-Habitat’s City Resilience Action Planning Tool - CityRAP) and evaluate its impact, for operationalization of urban resilience transition.

Katarzyna holds a Msc. in Landscape Architecture from The University of University of Copenhagen, Science Faculty in Denmark and Msc. Eng. in Landscape Architecture from Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Geodesy in Poland. 

Katarzyna worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Southern Denmark co-organizing, co-developing and delivering BLOXHUB Summer School on Urban Resilience 2019 and 2020 edition - capacity building training on urban resilience with the systems approach, and multi-disciplinary profile for practitioners, policymakers, and scientists. Katarzyna has been involved in the research on knowledge-implementation gaps in Urban Resilience in collaboration with researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), IUAV University of Venice and Imperial College London (ICL). At The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) as a Research Assistant she was involved in research on multi-benefit costal protection in Denmark, in collaboration with Smith Innovation (private sector). In Bangladesh, at the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) she supported partnerships development activities, research on migration and climate change nexus, and conferences organizations. She also has experience in developing long-term and integrative climate adaptation strategies on the management and spatial planning levels, and across sectors in Bolivia.  

Her goal is to work with the improvement of the adaptive governance and endogenous decision-making processes for climate-resilient cities.
