Jan Nordby Gretlund er lektor i engelsksproget litteratur ved Institut for Litteratur, Kultur og Medier ved Syddansk Universitet. Han er tilknyttet Center for Amerikanske Studier og Center for Engelsk.
Forskningsområde:
De amerikanske sydstaters litteratur, kultur og historie fra 1605 til i dag. Forskningen har baggrund i tolv år i sydstaterne og undervisning og forskning ved Vanderbilt University, University of Southern Mississippi, og især ved University of South Carolina.
Den publicerede forskning, i foreløbigt ti bøger, har fokus på sydstatsforfattere fra Virginia, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, North og South Carolina fra 1835 til i dag, som i Still in Print: The Southern Novel Today (USCP 2010) der redegør for udviklingen i sydstaternes fiktion: 1997-2009.
Den samfundsmæssige udvikling i sydstaterne behandles især i bøgerne: Frames of Southern Mind; Southern Landscapes; og i The Southern State of Mind (USCP 2010).
