Forskningsområder

  • Research foci: Funerary archaeology; interaction between culturally diverse populations; port cities and their demographic lay out; terracotta studies; Greek ceramics: distribution, reception and patterns of use; identity and gender studies; material aspects of Greek and Roman religion; reception of antiquity in later art and culture; cultural heritage studies; object-based learning.
  • Research Profile: My research encompasses a diverse range of topics within the fields of classical archaeology, cultural studies, and heritage management. The common denominator is to explore the intricate connections between material culture, social interactions, and historical contexts, seeking nuanced understanding of the Greco-Roman worlds as well as their long durée impact on post-antique society.
  • In my former research on ancient Roman port cities, I have been particularly interested in port cities as hubs of economic activity and cultural exchange. This has led me to focus specifically on the demographic layout of port cities, their population compositions, their funerary cultures and the roles of material and visual culture pertaining to different population groups.

Current Research Interests: I am currently focusing on Cultural heritage studies, specifically the preservation, management, and interpretation of artifacts in the study collections of the SDU classics department. https://www.sdu.dk/en/om-sdu/institutter-centre/iks/forskning/forskningsprojekter/antikken-paa-fyn

This research addresses amongst other topics the challenges of developing strategies for sustainable preservation, popular dissemination, and public engagement. Further, this research is cobbled to interests in field of ‘Object-Based Learning’ focusing on the role of artifacts and material culture in educational settings. This research explores how objects are instrumental in activating tactile intelligence, and how objects can be used to enhance learning experiences and create immersive and interactive educational environments. It further investigates how engagement with material culture can foster critical thinking and promote cultural awareness in an academic context as well as in engagements with the broader public.
