Forskningsområder

I am a researcher in RF and microwave engineering, radar systems, antennas, software-defined radio, and remote sensing. My research focuses on the development of advanced RF sensing systems that integrate electromagnetic engineering, hardware design, digital signal processing, and software-defined architectures. My work combines theoretical modeling, numerical simulation, experimental characterization, and field deployment to develop flexible RF systems for emerging sensing applications. I am interested in developing complete sensing systems in which electromagnetic hardware and digital signal processing are co-designed to improve system flexibility, performance, and adaptability.

RF and Microwave Systems

A major focus of my research is the design and integration of RF and microwave systems, including RF front ends, microwave circuits, passive and active components, and measurement systems. My work involves electromagnetic simulation, circuit design, hardware integration, and experimental characterization using vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes, and anechoic chambers.

I have particular experience developing harmonic radar systems, including RF front-end integration, harmonic transponder design, radar detection algorithms, and high-power radar deployment. My doctoral research involved the development of an open-source software-defined harmonic radar for tracking flying insects, combining RF hardware, antennas, signal processing, and field experimentation.

Antennas and Electromagnetic Engineering

Another important area of my research is antenna design and electromagnetic engineering. I have designed, fabricated, simulated, and characterized different antenna structures, including dipoles, patch arrays, Vivaldi antennas, horn antennas, reflector antennas, and specialized harmonic-radar transponder antennas.

My earlier research investigated metamaterials and near-zero-index materials for antenna directivity enhancement and miniaturization, as well as Vivaldi antennas for synthetic aperture radar and ground-penetrating radar applications. This work provides a foundation for my current research in electromagnetic modeling, antenna optimization, and RF sensing systems.

Software-Defined RF Sensing

I also investigate software-defined radio and computational approaches to RF sensing. Software-defined architectures provide a flexible platform for implementing and adapting radar and communication systems through programmable digital signal processing.

My research has included the development of software-defined radar receivers, harmonic radar detection algorithms, and RFID backscatter and localization systems. I use platforms such as USRP and GNU Radio, together with Python and MATLAB, to implement and evaluate digital signal-processing algorithms and complete RF sensing architectures.

Integrated RF Sensing Systems

A central aspect of my research is the integration of electromagnetics, RF hardware, software-defined radio, and digital signal processing into complete experimental systems. Rather than treating antennas, RF electronics, and signal processing as independent components, my research considers their interaction at the system level.

This approach enables the development of flexible and open RF platforms that can be adapted to different sensing applications. My work has demonstrated this approach through experimental radar systems, harmonic transponders, RFID backscatter systems, and complementary sensing technologies such as computer vision.
