Daniel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Culture and Language at the University of Southern Denmark and a Fellow of the Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS).
Daniel earned his PhD in communication at the University of Vienna, Austria, where he was a pre-doc researcher with the Corporate Communication Research Group, headed by Sabine Einwiller, between 2018 and 2023, and was involved in and partly led several research projects funded by the Academic Society for Management and Communication headquartered in Leipzig, Germany. The projects addressed the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), internal communication in the context of remote work, and topic-based communication management and newsrooms in the realm of corporate and strategic communication. In 2019, and funded by a Marietta Blau Grant, Daniel spent a one-year research stay in the Department of Communication at Université de Montréal, Canada, under the supervision of François Cooren.
After he finished his PhD in March 2023, Daniel spent more than two years as a postdoctoral fellow at HEC Montréal’s Top Executives and Strategic Management Hub, where he studied interactions in top management team meetings from both strategy-as-practice (SAP) and communication as constitutive of organization (CCO) perspectives. In addition, he collaborated on a project dedicated to studying perceived work loneliness and its implications at the top executive level.
From a communication perspective, Daniel’s research mainly revolves around topics such as ethics and morality in and of organizations, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), strategy-and-organizing-as-practice (SOAP) in various contexts, as well as the constitutive force of humor in organizations and organizing.
Daniel is also the inventor, producer, and host of the podcast “The CommUnity Lab,” which launched in January 2025. In each episode (“Lab Talk”), scholars from around the world take center stage and talk about their research on specific communication phenomena in professional contexts.
