My research focuses on developing, integrating and maintaining ways to support person-centred communication in clinical healthcare practice.

In doing so, I initiate and collaborate on participatory, ethnographic and phenomenological research, unfolding perspectives and experiences of patients, relatives and healthcare professionals. The inquiry is to explore and develop ways to cultivate curiosity, reflection, compassion and mindfulness in communicative and relational encounters through training and education.

I am particularly interested in exploring the value and understanding of being a human in communicative encounters in healthcare, a so-called human-human encounter. A human-human encounter in clinical communication is to be understood as the basis of patients being seen and met as whole persons and the healthcare professionals experiencing meaningfulness and satisfaction in their working life. Such encounter requires professional qualities like sensitivity, reflection and attention to the existential vulnerabilities of both patients and healthcare professionals.
