Personal Profile

Research Interests

My primary field of research is childfree studies, and since 2021 I have examined both how childfree women are represented in Western cultural history and how literature offers alternatives to the stereotypical cultural-historical figures such as the stepmother, the witch, the cat lady, and the spinster. I work with literature, film, TV, and performance art within a broad Western perspective. I am particularly (though not exclusively) interested in childfree authors such as Karen Blixen, Tove Jansson, Selma Lagerlöf, Patricia Highsmith, Karin Boye, Octavia Butler, Charlotte Brontë, Kathy Acker, and Carson McCullers.

In 2022, I received a monograph grant from the Carlsberg Foundation to write a book on contemporary literature’s negotiations of childfreedom. This book is forthcoming and expected to be published in 2026.

In parallel, I am working on the long literary history of childfree women.

In 2025, I have also been engaged—together with Karen Hvidtfeldt and Anne Scott Sørensen—in producing a supplement to Nordic Women’s Literary History = Queering Nordic Women’s Literary History, and in 2025 I co-published, together with Rita Felski, the anthology LOVE ETC. with Virginia University Press.
