Using evidence synthesis for improving treatment of patients and research in health science

Carsten Bogh Juhl’s (CBJ) research is mainly focused on evidence synthesis on the effect of exercise-based rehabilitation interventions for patients with osteoarthritis, cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. Further research focus is how to use systematic review in justification, designing and interpreting research result is the context of

Current research projects:

CBJ is the senior investigator on the RCT HIP-REP investigating the effect of adding of activities of daily living (ADL) to rehabilitation for patients with hip fracture.

CBJ is the senior investigator on the project “Specific Training According to BaLance Evaluation (STABLE)” investigating the validity, responsiveness and reliability of six specific function test evaluating reason to and risk of falling.

CBJ is the senior investigator on a RCT investigating the effect of neuromuscular exercise and education to patients with severe knee osteoarthritis.

 

CV

CBJ is employed as Associate Professor at the Research Unit for Musculoskeletal Function and Physiotherapy at the Dept. of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics and is also affiliated to the Department of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. He has a background in Physiotherapy and defended his PhD in 2012.

CBJ is a member of the editoral group in Cochrane Musculoskeletal Group osteoarthritis satellite, advisory board in Cochrane Rehabilitation field and editorial group in Evidence Network research group (EBR)

Pedagogical training:
2001           Adult Education at the University of Copenhagen (60 ECTS)
2019           Course in PhD supervision

Educational administrative tasks:
Head of the Master Program in Physiotherapy (CSF) (Faculty of Health). Responsible for several courses at the Master in Physiotherapy (2012 -).

Teaching and supervision experience:
Since 2009, experience with planning and teaching a long list of courses at MSc in Physiotherapy (SDU). Supervisor for several PhD-students (since 2014) and supervisor for more than 30 MSc thesis mainly at the MSc in Physiotherapy (since 2012), but also at the Master of Rehabilitation, MSc Health Science and MSc in Medicine. Teaching on several Ph.D. courses in systematic review and meta-analysis at Aarhus University and SDU, and GRADE at SDU.

Methods, materials and tools:
Traditional lectures using power-point or similar, teaching of smaller groups, teaching in combination, development of data sets and exercises.

Teaching development and pedagogical research:
Participated in the development of the MSc in Physiotherapy (SDU). Developed a Ph.D. course in systematic review and meta-analysis for Aarhus University
