Forskningsområder

My academic interests in general cover the history of philosophy from ancient Greece and non-Western philosophy, to current Continental philosophy. In my research I am mainly occupied with Classical German Philosophy (from Kant to Hegel).

My approach is interpretation of classical works, but it is preferably thematically determined by topics in contemporary philosophy and by urgent societal matters, such as ethical problems concerning the natural environment. I investigate whether classical, especially German, philosophy holds insights, incl. methodical grips, that are fruitful for current philosophical and societal problems, both as regards worldview, incl. philosophy of nature, ethics, epistemology and the idea of education of the person (Bildung).

Teaching:

I teach history of philosophy from ancient Greece (and non-western philosophy) to twentieth century German philosophy, incl. phenomenology and existentialism, Critical Theory, and environmental ethics and aesthetics, occasionally also philosophy of science (the humanities) and philosophical methodology.

Current topics in my research:

Environmental ethics and aesthetics. I am particularly interested in connecting current environmental virtue ethics with ideas in the post-Kantian philosophy of nature and education (Bildung) in Classical German Philosophy to strenghten the motivational factor in the practice of environmental ethics.

Philosophy of nature in the Golden Age philosophy in Denmark, particularly F. C. Sibbern's reception of J. G Fichte's philosophy of the human person and of F. W. J. Schelling's philosophy of nature.
