Forskningsinteresser

I am a medical doctor and microbiologist and my previous and ongoing research is based on a desire to explain the pathogenesis and causality of recurrent urinary tract infections. The ultimate aim of my work is to contribute to better diagnostics of urinary tract infections and to develope novel antimicrobial interventions against this disease. I have clinical experience from the department of urology, Vejle Hospital and the department of Clinical Microbiology, Odense University Hospital. I have studied E. coli biofilm formation at NASA Kennedy Space Center, Florida, during a research stay in 2015.

Most of my research involves the use of a porcine model of urinary tract infection. This model was developed as part of my PhD and is the only one of its kind in the world. The model is used in multiple projects with different purposes:

• Uropathogenic Escherichia coli pathogenesis and biofilm-formation 
• Vaccine development and pre-clinical test 
• Catheter-associated urothelial micro-trauma and risk of infection 
• Evaluation of Cranberry products for prevention of urinary tract infection
• Novel antibiotics for treatment of Enterococcol urinary tract infection 
• Ongoing optimization and expansion of the porcine model

My position in the Clinical Biofilm Group enables research collaborations with different research groups and medical companies, where my role is study design, project management, supervision and conducting experimental work in the pig model.
