This course is designed to make an introduction to composite materials, and to the manufacturing methods used to produce them.Key areas:
Fibers, including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and aramid (Kevlar)
Fiber configurations such as unidirectional and woven fabrics
Matrix, including thermoplastic and thermoset types
Mechanical behavior
Design and tooling considerations
Manufacturing methods, including hand lay-up, prepreg layup, vacuum infusion, pultrusion, and filament winding
Curing methods such as room temperature, oven, and autoclave cures
Quality and defects
