EEG monitors to assess the level of hypnosis during anaesthesia have become widespread. However, anaesthesia staff often do not use the information provided by the EEG activity, as raw traces or its representation in density spectral arrays or by associated parameters to guide and finetune the anaesthesia practice. If the EEG is considered, most often the heavily processed indices are used as only source of information for guidance. This processed information, however, only partially reflects the complete EEG information. To fully appreciate the information of EEG-derived indices, it is essential to understand how the raw EEG and the derived parameters interact during anaesthesia.The aim of this course is to enable participants to fully integrate the EEG, its sub-parameters and the processed EEG values in a patient-centered and brain protective approach in real-world clinical settings. From electrode placement to EEG interpretation and troubleshooting, all aspects will be interactively taught and discussed in a hands-on approach.
