Beskrivelse

ePortfolios, blogs, VLEs, wikis, social networking, assistive technologies, WiFi, video-capture, MOOCS... words we increasingly hear in our everyday lives. As educators we’re more and more aware of the enormous role technology can play, but how can we use these tools effectively and efficiently in educating the health workforce? And how can we keep up in such a fast-evolving arena? Each week in this module we’ll be exploring a different theme. We’ll look at current trends in eLearning from the viewpoint of the learner, the teacher, the institution and the sector. Our learning technologist team have developed exciting ways for you to engage in online discussions, allowing you to not only discuss the week’s hot topic, but also for you to try out different tools. And of course we’ll be expecting you to reflect not only on the topic but also your feelings about online discussions in a supported environment. Flipping the classroom has arguably been around for many years, but increasingly pervasive, powerful and affordable technology again gives us some fantastic opportunities for introducing different teaching models. Online social networking is newer, and there’s a lot of debate on its use in education. We’ll look at these, including potential professional lapses. As a specific example of a current trend we’ll explore MOOCs (massive open online courses), in more detail, showcasing Dundee’s antimicrobial stewardship: managing antibiotic resistance MOOC. We’ll evaluate different business models, asking ourselves the question: how do we define success? You’ll take part in a MOOCas part of your learning.By the endof the module you will have developed your own online material –but don’t worry, we’ll take you through the process of developing eLearning objects, introducing the concept of reusable learning objects, instructional design principles, legal and ethical issues. We explore evaluation, heuristically, as a measure of success, and also the use of technology to enhance evaluation. We finish the module with a look at how we might use technology to enhance research –for our scholarship, for recruitment, for ourmethodology and for dissemination. We won’t be delving into coding or html, rather we’ll be focussing on pedagogical principles and how we critically apply those to web 2.0 tools. So whatever your background and current experience of eLearning, as studentor tutor, manager or administrator, if you want to learn more about enhancing learning using technology, we look forward to meeting you.
