The presentation focuses on heavy metal culture, its expressions and its artifacts - such as outlook, gestures, diabolical themes, poetry and music - regarding them as constructs the verisimilitude of which is construed in dialogue with other textualities.
Heavy metal may be approached as a species of
counterculture. Counterculture –precisely because of its nature
(being 'against something') – is born and develops in a form of denial. In its quest to be different and more authentic in contrast to other 'pre-existing' cultural phenomenon, heavy metal seeks – over and above its gesture of negation - an identification with other 'verisimilitude-mirrors', other systems of credibility. It contemplates itself; it identifies with and distances itself from the other, thereby constructing itself as a patchwork of other forms of rebellion.
