Abstract: In practice-based design research it is generally accepted that designerly experiments and the making of artefacts are used as the primary methods of inquiry. Methodologically, design experiments can be characterized according to iterative ways of drifting between research question, program and evaluation. But how do we evaluate the outcome of design experiments? How does the outcome relate to the research question? What is the role of the research question in scoping design experiments and eventually the forms of knowledge that may be expected from doing them?
