Goals of the STSM
It is universally acknowledged that the conceptual and theoretical underpinnings of debriefing are unsatisfactory and this is reflected in operational and definitional confusion and uncertainty.
The applicants and host have been collaboratively engaged in exploring how this this aspect of practice might be improved, bringing clarity of nomenclature, and exploring how theoretical underpinnings might be applied in practice.
To date, the applicants and host [collectively] have developed both a meta ethnographic understanding which has the potential to inform improve understanding, and developed a tentative practice model which has the potential to inform the translation of the theory to practice. This STSM will focus on examine the synergy between these two complementary developments and explore how these might be tested in practice.
The goals of this STSM are to:
- Collaboratively explore an effective strategy to empirically test the implementation of debriefing in mental health practice, taking into account the perspectives of all stakeholders.
- Identify what methodology and outcomes should be used in empirical testing.
- Strategically explore available dissemination strategies, with a goal to identify EU, UK national, and international opportunities for collaboration and cooperation.
- Have a plan for further collaborative work and submissions.
