Kurset er obligatorisk for alle ph.d.-studerende på Det Sundhedsvidenskabelige Fakultet, SDU, indskrevet efter 1. marts 2007. Aim: This course enables biomedical students to identify basic statistical problems in medical research and to carry out the appropriate statistical analysis. The student gets hands-on experience in using a statistical package, which is mandatory when doing practical statistical analyses. Contents: The student is introduced to the basic statistical techniques applied to biological and medical examples. Topics covered are: Descriptive statistics, data types, elementary probability concepts, statistical distributions, comparison of two samples by parametric and nonparametric methods, t-tests, paired observations, basic design of experiments, basic analysis of frequency data, linear and multiple regression, analysis of variance. The statistical package Stata is used for analysis of real medical and health related examples.
